CoDevelopment Canada is a B.C.-based NGO that works for social change and global education in the Americas. Founded in 1985 by a group of activists who wanted to go beyond financial aid, CoDev builds partnerships between like-minded organizations in Canada and Latin America to foster learning, social change, and community empowerment. These partnerships educate Canadians about Latin America and allow them to directly support the region. On May 15 the Canadian government tabled its first legally mandated report on the impact of the Canada-Colombia Free Trade Agreement (CCFTA) on human rights in Parliament. Rather than reviewing and commenting on human rights, the report outlines the methodology that will be used to deliver a report in one year’s time. The report, in fact, is devoid of any detail regarding human rights in Colombia,
In response to several recent human rights violations in Honduras including the assassination of journalist and gay rights activist, Erick Martinez and threats to international accompaniers, Peace Brigades International has sent a letter to the Canadian government requesting that they raise concerns with the Honduran government over the situation of human rights in the country.
